Historic Homes In Placer County
As a longtime Auburn resident, I’v grown to appreciate the historic homes and landmarks. Placer County in California is known for its rich history, and there are several notable historic homes in the area.
Here are some of my favorites.
Bernhard House (Auburn): Built in 1851, the Bernhard House is one of Auburn's oldest homes. It is a prime example of Greek Revival architecture and has been meticulously preserved, offering a glimpse into the area's early settlement.
Griffith Quarry House (Penryn): Constructed in 1864, the Griffith Quarry House served as the residence for the superintendent of the Penryn Granite Works. It reflects the distinctive Italianate style and played a significant role in the region's granite quarrying industry.
Loomis Grammar School (Loomis): Although not a home, the Loomis Grammar School is a historic building that dates back to 1888. It was one of the first grammar schools in Placer County and now serves as a museum, showcasing the local educational history.
Colfax Passenger Depot (Colfax): The Colfax Passenger Depot, built in 1905, is a beautifully restored historic train station. It serves as a gateway to Colfax's rich railroad heritage and hosts a visitor center and museum.
Gold Rush-era Homes (Downtown Auburn): Auburn's historic downtown area is home to numerous well-preserved Gold Rush-era houses. These Victorian-style homes showcase the architectural charm of the period and provide a glimpse into Auburn's early days.
Greek Storey House (Lincoln): Constructed in 1861, the Greek Storey House is a distinctive example of Greek Revival architecture in Lincoln. It has been renovated and serves as a private residence.
Johnson Springview Ranch (Rocklin): Johnson Springview Ranch, dating back to the late 1800s, is a historic property that was once a working ranch. It now serves as a community park with preserved ranch buildings and a beautiful natural landscape.

The Chantry House (Foresthill): The Chantry House, built in 1855, is one of Foresthill's oldest structures. This Greek Revival-style home has been restored and serves as a bed and breakfast, offering a unique glimpse into the town's history.
